HF Markets Privacy, Security, Data, and Capital Protection

The broker's client and data privacy policies are more or less in line with those adopted by other leading FX brokers regulated in Europe. While personal information can be collected through correspondence and may serve various purposes, including marketing and promotional activities, the broker is legally mandated to gather know your customer information. This includes proof of identity, evidence of residency, income status, and verification of bank/credit card details.

Generally, personal information is collected by HF Markets for 3 reasons:

  • To complete its contractual obligation with a client.
  • To comply with legal obligations from government authorities and law enforcement agencies.
  • To address legitimate interests.

Capital Protection and Security of Funds

Besides being under tight regulation, the broker has taken a few risk management measures to ensure the safety of clients' funds, including capital protection against market volatility:

  • HF Markets maintains clients' accounts only with major global banks. However, it has not specified these banks.
  • All clients' funds are held in off-balance-sheet segregated accounts, which cannot be used to pay off creditors in case of a default.
  • Negative balance protection is provided.
  • In addition to subscribing to ICF in Europe and FSCS in the UK, client deposits at HF Markets are covered against errors, negligence, fraud, and other risks to the tune of €5,000,000, through a civil liability insurance program taken by the company.
  • Stringent regulations in Europe and the UK mean the broker has to maintain sufficient capital adequacy, submit quarterly financial statements to watchdogs, retain adequate liquid capital to protect client deposits, safeguard the firm's currency exposure in the event of market volatility, and cover operational expenses.

Web and desktop trading platforms

HF Markets Europe offers the standard MT4 platform to all its clients, accessible across operating systems and mobile devices, while global clients also have the option to choose the latest MT5 platform.

Besides, the broker provides a multi-terminal platform for clients managing several accounts with the option to simultaneously execute trades at the same price on all the accounts. As part of our review of the broker, we opened a HF Markets demo account and independently tested the 3 platforms.

MT4 Platform

With the MT4 desktop platform, clients can trade in 52 FX pairs, including majors, exotics, and cross currencies; as well as precious metals like spot gold, silver, platinum, and palladium; and Brent and WTI crude, shares, indices, and bonds. Also, clients can access futures contracts in crude oil and natural gas, soft commodities, indices, and bonds. The platform is user-friendly, compatible with most operating systems, and consumes minimal space.

HF Markets offers competitive spreads starting from 1.1 pips for the EUR/USD pair, slightly more than what is stated on its website. Trade execution is quick: we did not notice any delay in order execution, nor did we come across re-quotes.

MT4 comes loaded with the EA facility for clients looking to auto-trade. The broker also offers free VPS hosting for clients seeking to run their strategies from a cloud-based platform. Our tests did not find any lag in the level-I data. The MT4 platform also features a single-thread strategy tester, along with news updates from some leading websites offering fundamental data.

HF Markets Web Terminal

The HF Markets Web Terminal is compatible with Windows Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. The standard web platform has limitations and does not feature all the trading tools found on the desktop version of MT4. However, the browser-based application connects to the same interface as the MT4 desktop platform.

HF Markets MT4 Platform

Mobile trading and HF Markets trading platform app

The MT4 mobile app offered by the broker is a compact version of the desktop platform, with real-time prices on the app moving in tandem with those on the latter. However, choosing lot sizes and using the drag-and-drop (D&D) facility is far more comfortable on the desktop platform than on the mobile app, which does not include the D&D feature for stop loss / take profit (SL/TP) orders. Trade execution is slightly slower compared to other versions, and it is not very convenient to place stops and TP orders in volatile markets. We also noticed some slippage while placing market orders due to a lag in order execution.

  • Android
  • iOS

Pros

  • The globally renowned MT4 platform features a wide array of trading tools, lightning-speed execution, and free custom-built indicators.
  • Compatible with almost all operating systems and mobile apps.

Cons

  • If you are using the web platform, in the event of a disruption in internet connectivity, the process of having to manually log in with your credentials is tedious.
  • You can encounter slippages if you're trading on the mobile platform.

Besides, interested and existing clients can fill out the contact form on the "Contact Us" page of the broker's website, stating their questions and the preferred contact time to facilitate the broker to arrange a call.

We interacted with the broker on live chat. Although the support team quickly responded (took about 20 seconds), the lack of knowledge regarding the products and services offered was evident from the time taken to answer questions.

In the following table, we have illustrated the various support channels offered by the broker to their European clients and the corresponding contact info.
